Because “Never Again” must be more than
a promise—it must be a practice.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS
During my tenure at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., I researched and created a learning module that examines the role of educational institutions and individual teachers during the Holocaust, “Oath and Opposition: Education Under the Third Reich”.
It explores why some teachers chose to take an oath of loyalty to Adolf Hitler and comply with Nazi ideology, while others chose to act in opposition.
Through this presentation, we examine the pressures teachers felt under the Nazi regime, the range of decisions individuals made in the face of those pressures, and the relevance of this history today.
